Memorandum on the value of the Foreign Trade of Yunnan and Kwangsi which passed in Transit through Tonkin during the Year 1905.
The following statistics are compiled from the records of the French Customs at Hanoi. They apply only to trade between other countries and the Southern provinces of China passing through Tonkin, not to trade between Tonkin and those provinces.
The total amount of this trade was as follows:
A. Yunnan.
1. From Hongkong to Yunnan £ 615,935
2. From Yunnan to Hongkong £ 530,252
3. From Europe to Yunnan £ 19,601
Total for Yunnan Trade £ 1,165,878
B. Kwangsi
1. From Hongkong to Kwangsi £ 1,013
2. From Kwangsi to Hongkong £ 4
Total for Kwangsi Trade £ 1,017
Total Trade £ 1,166,805
It will be seen that over 98 per cent of the trade was with Hongkong.
The following Tables show the chief articles of which the trade consisted.
